Jennifer Jones, Class of 1982

This is the first time the Thurston Bowl has ever been awarded to two class secretaries. They’ve each been on the job only five years and already have equaled the best qualities of their distinguished predecessor. Reading their quarterly notes is like listening in on a phone call between friends. In one early column, readers learned that Anne was cranky with her husband, Janet was annoyed about paying bills and Ricky was so busy that he didn’t get to see Darrell that summer but hoped to the next. Indeed, as the secretaries observed in that installment, “the class emerges as busy, busy and, yes, perhaps a teensy bit cranky.” This year’s recipients also manage to avoid some of the glitches inherent in sharing the collection and production of Class Notes. Their column has never been late because one secretary thought it was the other’s turn to write. News doesn’t seem to get duplicated or lost in the confusion over who received or didn’t receive what. And if one of the secretaries is too busy to do the writing, say, because she’s running a marathon, the other is more than happy to take up the pen. How do they get along so well? Maybe it’s because they are married to each other. For their warmth and humor, for their dedication and devotion to their classmates and college — and for five years of truly distinguished service as co-secretaries, the Society of Alumni is proud to honor, from the Class of 1982, Michael J. Rosenfelder and Jennifer R. Jones.
